Looking Back at the IAIABC 110th Convention

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

IAIABC 110th Convention – Over 30 Jurisdictions and 70 Organizations Stamped Their Passports to Solutions at the IAIABC 110th Convention

(October 17, 2024– Monona, WI) – The IAIABC 110th Convention, held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada from September 16-19, 2024, was a resounding success. Professionals from 34 jurisdictions and 74 organizations explored a variety of perspectives on issues facing the workers’ compensation industry together and carried on a century-long tradition of gathering to consider, collaborate, and debate new ideas and solutions to help reduce harm and aid recovery for workers and their employers.

Attendees had several opportunities to gain new knowledge and insights and to connect with peers at a variety of different gatherings which included presentations, jurisdictional forums, discussion sessions, committee meetings, and social events. This year’s conference, the first held internationally since 2008, put a particular spotlight on global perspectives of the workers’ compensation industry.

The Convention began with a keynote address by Anthony Lue, a motivational speaker and accessibility consultant. Lue, who was a high-performing high school athlete until a workplace injury left him paraplegic, shared his inspiring story and left attendees encouraged to overcome obstacles and reach their goals.

Some of the topics that were explored at the Convention included the impact of AI on workers’ compensation systems across the globe, optimizing recovery management, the changing landscape of mental health, employer workers’ compensation premium fraud, a spotlight on Taiwan’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration, vocational rehabilitation counselors, and more.

Later in the Convention, the IAIABC Board of Directors were sworn in for the 2024-2025 term. The Board, which is made up of 11 jurisdictional leaders, as well as the head of the Associate Member Council, a NextGen representative, and the IAIABC Executive Director, will set the vision, mission, and strategic direction of the Association.

Said Anna Hui, Director of the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations and IAIABC President, “I am honored to continue serving IAIABC alongside leaders in the workers’ compensation industry. Using data-driven solutions will support our vision of a world free from the pain and loss of work injuries and illnesses. Along with our membership, the Board will continue encouraging advances in technology to improve service through best practices, efficiency, and a commitment to workplace safety.”

A Convention digest with summaries of each session and more details about the conference will be published on the IAIABC website soon. The IAIABC looks forward to continuing to support those in the workers’ compensation industry now and in the future through its conferences and many other member services.
