Ann-Kathrin Schaefer

Ann-Kathrin Schäfer is Section Manager for International Policy and European Law in the Policy Affairs Division of the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV).

She has been working for DGUV since 2019. From 2015 to 2019 Ann-Kathrin worked for the German Armed Forces Association (DBwV). She started her professional life as Senior Expert in 2015. Ann-Kathrin took over responsibility for a team after only one year in the profession. She began working as Section Manager for Participation Rights in the public service, advocating for good working conditions of the civil personnel of the German Armed Forces and relevant European Law from 2016 to 2019. During these 3.5 years, before working for the DGUV, Ann-Kathrin gained leadership experience as a young woman in the field of external security and defence, promoting good working conditions, effective participation rights and the protection of military and civilian personnel in the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces). Today, she is committed to the interests of social security including the protection against accidents at work and occupational diseases. By closely monitoring and analysing policy and law at EU-level, Ann-Kathrin succeeds in representing the interests of the statutory accident insurance system in Germany vis-à-vis the European Union and the federal ministries responsible in Germany. She works closely with strategic political and legal developments.

In the years from 2006 to 2014, Ann-Kathrin studied law and completed her legal clerkship, among others in the judiciary and public administration departments, the state parliament, and an umbrella organization for employers' and business associations in Lower Saxony. During this time, she passed legal state exams with a focus on Constitutional, Administrative and European Law.

Ann-Kathrin was born 1987 and raised in Lower Saxony, Germany. Since 2015 she has been living and working in Berlin, Germany.
